Working with Artist Gordon Huether, I worked with a small team to create a signature art installation for Auberge du Soleil. Huether was inspired by the natural beauty around Auberge du Soleil and how the sun sets and rises over the Napa valley. The design is composed of abstract circular shapes, laser-cut and powder coated aluminum, acrylic, and mirrors, all set on to a corten base.
We worked with Huether first to create 3D models and renders of the artwork based on his sketches. It was essential to model each component to get the most accurate renderings with light and reflections. Modeling each part helps later in the process to produce templates and cut files for each element.
After working through many iterations we found a final design that was aesthetically pleasing and on budget. Lastly, I created reference sheets, templates, and cut files for the fabrication and installation of the artwork.
This project showcased the importance of thinking through how each element of the project will interacts and functions in a real-world environment.
