A pen case to convert a typically capped ballpoint pen to be clickable. This design is proof of concept design, exporting rapid prototyping techniques.
I started by researching the mechanical mechanisms used to make a pen retractable. The most popular clickable version had a much more complex mechanism using offset wedge shapes. But upon further research, I found another simple mechanism using a single wedge.
I used cardboard to prototype the shape and size of the pen case. I used 3m thick plywood for my final laser cut prototypes and PLA filament for all the 3d-printed components. Laser cutting and 3d printing are relatively quick producing parts, and I was able to create pieces in CAD swiftly, cut them out, and see if the design worked.
