The Challenge was to design a chair that could only be fabricated from a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood, using a CNC and 3D printer with minimal off-the-shelf components. After exploring many different concepts through my sketches, I designed a Low-sitting lounge folding chair.
The chair can be folded and easily stored or transported. This minimalist folding chair can be sold as a DIY kit or a per-assembled piece of furniture. It uses 3D printed locking pin to set the chair's recline. Because the fabric is used for the seat and backing of the chair, the material that needs to be cut is minimal. Two full chairs can be manufactured from a single 8 x 4 sheet of wood.
Furthering this chair design would see physical iteration and testing. The seat height would be carefully looked and while further optimizing material usage.
